Cricket for Change

This national cricket charity is at the forefront of developing cricket for under-privileged inner city youngsters , blind, partially sighted and disabled players.
"We see cricket, because of its history throughout the world, as being uniquely able to transcend the major urban racial groups, black, white and Asian and because it's a non-contact game, is also uniquely able to help young people with a disability share in the benefits of competitive team sport.
"We believe that cricket can be used to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities and for the last 29 years we have used our unique cricket programmes to help young people, in particular, make positive choices about their lives and to help them feel good about themselves," explains Tom Rodwell, Executive Chairman.
Training requirements
Cricket for Change got in touch with us through a recommendation from the Embassy of Panama in London that knew we had done some training for the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Dubai.
Cricket for Change had a very clear set of objectives: the charity needed to increase donations and sponsorship revenues in order to extend the Street20 programme across the UK as well as internationally. In addition, it lacked expertise in sales, marketing and managing public relations as well as understanding how to properly engage with its partners, supporters and sponsors.
It's main sponsorship programme was Street20, which had been successfully established in the UK as the premier urban cricket tournament as well as having been played in Panama, Israel, Egypt, South Africa, India and Sri Lanka.
The training programme had to appeal to a large and varied team of full-time, part-time and volunteer members of staff that were responsible for each of these areas.
Delivery of the training programme
Given the nature of the charity, the training in each of these key skill areas took place over the course of a 12 month programme - both at the cricket centre in Surrey as well as other locations.
Feedback from delegates
Over time, we became part of the team responsible for supporting the sales and marketing work of the charity and it was extremely rewarding to see organisational and individual the progress being made in sales, marketing, sponsorship and communication performance that had been an area of weakness for the charity.
