Great Wheel Corporation is the world's leading provider of observation wheels The Great Wheel Corporation (GWC) has been set up to develop and operate Great Wheels worldwide and the company has the resources necessary to develop a host of ground breaking and exciting projects including building the world’s biggest observation wheel in Beijing, China at a breathtaking 208 meters that will be operational in 2010.

The philosophy of the GWC is to create an ‘inspirational experience’ for every visitor to any of its Great Wheels across the world. This philosophy also sits at the heart of GWC.

GWC ambition was to align engineering excellence and design with sales and marketing excellence in order to deliver an inspirational experience for every visitor on every visit to a Great Wheel.

Guru in a Bottle CEO Ardi Kolah travelled to GWC HQ in Singapore to deliver a two-day strategic sales & marketing training programme for the GWC Board.

Design of training programme

There had been a subsequent meeting with the CEO of GWC in London several months prior to the delivery of the training in Singapore. At this meeting, the content of the training programme was discussed and a pre-workshop questionnaire was emailed to the GWC Board. In addition, commercial plans for new observation wheels to be erected in Beijing, Orlando and Berlin were reviewed in detail.

Specific changes in performance of GWC

The two-day sales and marketing workshop had to deliver against certain key objectives:
  • Strategic understanding of best practice in sales & marketing and goal/objective setting for each observation wheel
  • Application of market and customer segmentation and analysis techniques in each country
  • Understanding the management required for public relations activites around each observation wheel and the best practice in Government relations.

Learning approach

  • Analysis/discussion of existing plans for observation wheels in Singapore, Beijing, Orlando and Berlin
  • Case studies of other similar infrastructure projects and lessons learned
  • Problem-solving.

The new observation wheel in Orlando will be one of the biggest in the world at over 400ft high and a key tourist attraction near to Disney World

  • Blue print for Sales & Marketing and Communication Plan for observation wheels in Singapore, Beijing, Orlando and Berlin
  • List of follow up actions for the GWC Board with respect to strengthening Government relations in each territory
