Founder of the UK's number 1 web site for women of colour
Award recognition for Diversity Pioneer
One of the most dynamic, inspirational and enterprising women of her generation has just been honoured for her work in diversity and ethnic marketing. And at Guru in a Bottle we are extremely proud of her remarkable achievements.
Foluke Akinlose received the MBE from Buckingham Palace for having created the UK's number one web site for women of colour.
It's taken a decade for Foluke to have built Precious into a global community for women of black, Africa Caribbean and Asian descent.
The web site, Precious online, covers business, lifestyle, news and views of this important economic segment.
And what's more, it's the number one UK web site by Google natural search under 'women of colour', generating over 80,000 unique visitors a month without a single penny of advertising.
Foluke's achievements are significant for the whole sales and marketing community.
Here in the UK, black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups make up 6.4% of the total population of working age in the UK - and are growing in influence which is why all the main political parties will be after their votes in the forthcoming General Election on May 6.
Recent research shows that women in the 25-49 years-old age bracket are increasingly spending more time and money on-line - and more than men.
"And while traditional print magazine publications are struggling, there's been a marked increase in interest in women's health and beauty, motherhood, women's home interests and business and finance content" explains Foluke.
Here at Guru in a Bottle, we think brand owners need to re-wire their thinking and expertise in this area which is why we deliver a unique workshop that focuses on the art of influencing and selling.
