We honour the cherished memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice to preserve democracy, peace and justice on the 80th Anniversary of the end of WWII.

In 2024, the UK is estimated to have under 70,000 World War II veterans still living. This includes those who served in the British Armed Forces, such as those involved in the D-Day landings, according to Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.

Organizations like the Royal British Legion and Blesma continue to support these veterans and their families.

Many veterans are also sharing their stories and experiences on this special day, the commemoration of the end of WWII.

I’m incredibly proud to be a British Asian, to pay tribute to those in my own family and others who fought for the British Empire to preserve liberty and peace and I pray that the values they laid their lives on the line for continue to inspire us and the next generation.

We shall never forget. Sir Winston Churchill summed up the feeling all those years ago and which is prescient of how we all feel today:

“God bless you all. This is your victory, victory of the cause of freedom in every land. In all our long history we have never seen a greater day than this.”

May God bless all of those who gave us our liberty and freedom from tyranny, and we must never forget the ultimate sacrifice these brave women and men made in the pursuit of liberty, freedom and justice, which we have in the UK and for which all of us must be eternally grateful.
